With the north and south side renovations completed, attention was turned towards the massive construction project in the west endzone of Boone Pickens Stadium in 2007. When completed, the west endzone will raise the seating capacity to around 60,000 and offer arguably the finest facilities to players and coaches.

Renovations for the northside of Boone Pickens Stadium will be completed in the summer of 2006, and the preliminary stages of Phase III will begin shortly thereafter. While a great deal of the steel skeleton was erected during and after the 2005 season, much of the cosmetic and interior work on the northside was done in 2006. After the completion of the northside, demolition will begin on the existing west endzone stands to make way for Phase III.

2005 Construction

2005 proved to be a disappointing year for Cowboy Football fans, but progress towards completing the renovations for Boone Pickens Stadium continued on, nonetheless. The northside stadium structure was completely gutted in the summer, and construction began shortly thereafter and pushed on through the 2005 football season, giving out-of-town fans a chance to see the progress firsthand with every home game.

2004 Construction

2004 saw the renovation of the south side of Boone Pickens Stadium. Workers battled around the clock against unsavory weather conditions and time in order to get Phase I completed in time for the 2004 home season opener against the University of Tulsa. The newly-renovated south side gave Cowboy fans as well as the entire country (thanks to a visit from ESPN's College Gameday) a preview of things to come.

New Renderings & Future Plans

31_COLORbiglight.jpg

In early 2006, Oklahoma State unveiled more detailed computer renderings for the completed Boone Pickens Stadium. These renderings showcased the impressive addition of the new west endzone structure, replacing the old endzone stands. Details of the west endzone project had remained hazy up until this point when Oklahoma State made it clear that it was committed to having world-class facilities available for its student athletes and fans.

Old Stadium Renderings

The details of the renovation of Lewis Field has seen many changes since its initial proposal several years ago. Concepts of the stadium have been revised numerous times, each of which accomodating more lavish amenities for the benefit of Cowboy Football and its fans. An upper deck was also called for in the early phases of the project, although there is now no immediate plan to add one due to current limitations in ticket demand. (Note that these renderings are outdated and may not include features in the finished stadium)

Historical Photos

Lewis Field had come a long way since its inception in 1914 up until the Next Level campaign that began in 2003. Many of the 20th century upgrades sacrificed aesthetics in favor of simply increasing capacity, which gave the stadium a less-than-favorable impression on many fans. The Next Level sought to change that by applying the modified Georgian architecture of the OSU campus to the stadium, as well as giving fans one of the best gameday experiences in college football.
